What is the Fantastical Summer Music Camp?

A full-day (9am - 4pm) music camp with rehearsals for three days culminating in a Finale Concert on the final evening.

What music will we get to play?

This year the camp has been given a Fantasy focus. We will be enjoying the epic Fantasy-film music from Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, How to Train Your Dragon and more - it's going to be HUGE!

Are singers able to be involved?

YES! A new Vocal option has been introduced, allowing singers to get in on the action by providing that epic choir sound found in every fantasy-film soundtrack.

Who can attend?

All young musicians between the ages of 11 and 24  - CHECK SKILL LEVEL BELOW FOR SUITABILITY.

Is it only for TRYO members?

No, you don't have to have been in TRYO - you can just come for the camp.

Although, we're sure you'll enjoy yourself so much that you will want to continue the adventure and be part of TRYO's fun-filled year of performances.

Who is the camp for?

Any orchestral or band instruments and vocals are welcome:

- Strings, including harp and bass guitar.

- Winds, including saxophone.

- Brass

- Percussion

- Vocals *NEW*

NOTE: Limited places are available for bass guitar and percussion. Acoustic/electric guitar can only be listed as a 2nd instrument.

What if I play two instruments?

Players can list a second instrument or more on the registration form.

This is especially helpful to us know if, for example,  a violinist might be willing to play viola.

This includes those not listed above such as piano, acoustic/electric guitar.

What level do you need to be?

The camp can cater for all early intermediate to advanced musicians and singers.

This year, a junior ensemble will be operating to cater for the less experienced players (this will depend on numbers).

Check with your teacher if you're not sure of your level.

Full Youth Orchestra

Grade 4/5+ AMEB is required for 1st parts and solos. A minimum Grade 3 AMEB level for the 2nd/3rd parts.

IMPORTANT: Very good ability in sight-reading is highly recommended for this intensive 3-day camp.

Junior Ensemble

Players should have at least a few years tuition and have reached about Grade 1 or 2 AMEB level.

A good knowledge of simpler keys including concert C, F, G and D major. Reading of notes is essential.

Vocal Group

Vocalists will need to be able to sing in tune. Some experience in part-singing is recommended.

Being able to read music is a distinct advantage, but not essential if you are a quick learner.

Where is it being held?

This year the camp will be held at Centenary Heights SHS's brand new Caldwell Performance Centre.

(60 Ramsay St, Toowoomba)

Who can attend the Finale Concert and how do we book tickets?

The free concert is open to all family and friends of camp participants.

Due to Covid-19 Mandates, we will be holding the concert outside during the late afternoon on the Friday.

(Details regarding wet-weather venue will be given closer to the date. If too wet, we may need to do two indoor concerts)

Venue conditions may change due to Covid-19 restrictions.

What is the cost of the camp?

$85 per player if registered on or before Dec 18, 2021.

$95 per player if registering after Dec 18, 2021.

An invoice will be issued once the online registration form has been submitted and processed by our team.

IMPORTANT : The fees are NOT REFUNDABLE.  If Government directives dictate that due to COVID-19 we can't hold the camp at the planned time, we will postpone it to another time in the year.

PLEASE NOTE - LUNCH IS NOT INCLUDED - Please provide your own packed lunch, snacks and water please.
