BIG NEWS FOR THIS CAMP!!!
This year’s camp features a special “live to picture” performance of the animated short film Wing It! — an original film chosen especially for the camp.
Campers will perform a brand-new original score written specially for this year’s Animated Camp, playing the music live in sync with the film during the finale concert.
It’s a unique opportunity to experience what it’s like to bring animation to life through music — just like a real film studio orchestra!
Finale Concert
Each camp wraps up with a spectacular live concert — the perfect way to celebrate everything you’ve learned and created throughout the week!
The Junior Camp finishes with its own concert on the final afternoon, showcasing all the music rehearsed during their three-day adventure.
Then, the Full Orchestra & Vocals Camp takes to the stage in a grand evening performance at the Armitage Centre, Empire Theatres, bringing to life the unforgettable soundtracks of animation.
Invite your family and friends to experience the energy, colour, and fun of these incredible performances!

What people say about our camps.

What is the ANIMATED Summer Music Camp?
A non-residential day camp (9am-4pm each day) with rehearsals, workshops and tutoring all culminating in a Finale Concert.
The camp is lead by TRYO conductor Tim Gray, with Vocal Ensemble director Michelle Gray.
Why are there two camps?
This year, we're introducing a new, focused schedule!
The Junior Animated Camp will run separately, taking place over three days from Sunday afternoon to late Tuesday afternoon.
This dedicated time allows us to provide more personnel and focused attention, ensuring our youngest musicians get the absolute most out of their experience.
The Full Orchestra and Vocals Animated Camp will follow immediately after, and will run for 4 days from Wednesday to Saturday, (similar to past camps).
Both musical groups will enjoy playing some of the most beloved and memorable music from animated films and TV shows!
What music will we get to play?
The theme for this camp is ANIMATED, so no matter which camp you attend, both groups will explore an exciting repertoire, including some of the most loved music from iconic animated movies and TV shows!
We will be enjoying some of the most epic and recognisable music written for animations including music from Disney musicals, epic Dreamworks sagas, Pixar Studios, wacky TV cartoons and even music from the golden age of Warner Brothers.
There's so much to choose from that we want you to suggest your wish list on the registration form.
Who can attend?
All young musicians or singers between ages 10 and 24 who meet the minimum skill level requirements below.
(NB: These are recommended ages, if a player meets the minimum skill levels required and would like to attend, but falls outside of the ages listed, please get in touch via the Contact Us form below)
Do I have to be a TRYO member?
Not at all! Any musician or singer can join in the fun!
What instruments can I play in the camp?
Strings:
Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Bass Guitar, Harp
Winds:
Clarinet, Oboe, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Flute, Saxophone
Brass:
Trumpets, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium, Tuba, French Horn
Percussion:
Tuned & Untuned Percussion, Drum Kit
Vocals:
Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass (it's okay if you don't know)
Guitar and Piano are not available as main instruments but can be listed as a 2nd instrument.
What if I play two instruments?
Players can list a second instrument or more on the registration form.
This is especially helpful for us to know if, for example, a violinist might be willing to play viola.
If your main instrument's position is full, you can still register with your second instrument (listed as your main instrument in the form) if there are still positions available for your second instrument.
Instruments such as piano and acoustic/electric guitar don't usually have enough parts to list them as a main instrument but you can list them as a second or third instrument should we require someone to play that part.
Some sections fill up quickly so it's best to get in early.
What level do you need to be? Is there an audition?
While no audition is required for instrumentalists, there are minimum skill levels recommended as seen below. Vocalists may be asked to audition.
Check with your teacher if you're not sure of your level.
Full Orchestra and Vocals Camp
Full Symphony Orchestra
Grade 4/5+ AMEB is required for 1st parts and solos.
A minimum Grade 3 AMEB level for the 2nd/3rd parts.
IMPORTANT: Very good ability in sight-reading is highly recommended for this short intensive camp.
Vocal Group
Vocalists will need to be able to sing in tune. Experience in part-singing is strongly recommended. Please list your singing experience during registration.
Being able to read music is a distinct advantage, but not essential if you are a quick learner.
Junior Camp
Players should have at least a couple of years of tuition and have reached about Grade 1 or 2 AMEB level (or State Curriculum Level 2 for Band Instruments, Level 4 for Strings).
A good knowledge of simpler keys including concert C, F, G and D major. Reading of notes is essential.
Where is it being held?
Rehearsals for Both Camps & Junior Concert: (Sunday to Friday)
Seventh Day Adventist Church, 135 Hume St, Toowoomba
Full Orchestra and Vocals Camp Final Day Rehearsal and FInale Concert:
Armitage Centre, Empire Theatres.
Who can attend the Finale Concert and how do we book tickets?
🎟️ Both concerts are open to the public.
The Saturday night Finale Concert at the Armitage Centre will be ticketed and tickets will be available for purchase closer to the date.
Finale Concert Details:
🕕 Junior Camp Concert: Tuesday evening 13 Jan (Time & venue TBC)
🕡 Full Orchestra & Vocal Camp Concert: Saturday 17 Jan, 6:30 pm (Armitage Centre)
What is the cost of the camp?
